So many changes. New city, new studio gear, new job. But I'm learning Logic, and making the kind of music that I want to. All good things.
On another note, macs are woefully underpowered. Especially when they cost so much. Maybe it's time to build another Hackintosh.

Wow, it's been a while.
I haven't posted in SO long, life conspires to separate me from my free time. But I'm fighting back.

Chrome
I'm finally trying out Google Chrome after being a die-hard Firefox user. I have to say, I really like it so far. It IS quick, it seems just as secure as Firefox, and it syncs my settings and bookmarks with ease. Firefox requires a plugin to do the same thing. Another nice thing about Chrome is that it auto-updates when you aren't using your internet connection.
One catch when installing Chrome extensions: It looks for a temp folder which is normally in the C:\Users folder. My Users folder is on my D:\ drive, since I'm using a Solid State Drive with only 80GB capacity. Chrome can't read the symbolic links I made to point to my Users folder, so I had to go into the registry and change the actual drive letter to reflect the physical location of my Users folder.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWSNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList. Change the value of the Default, Public, and Profile Directory keys to the new location. Log off, and back on again. I would do this for the actual user profiles, but leave the local and system accounts alone.
Now to figure out how to get Chrome to forget my browsing history when I close it ;)

Random Windows XP fixes
This guy (http://www.dougknox.com/) has some random but noteworthy fixes for some of Windows XP's annoyances. He also has some utilities that come in handy if you find yourself limited by XP's scope. I found a fix for disappearing CD/DVD drives which worked when nothing else would. Cool beans.

Open "mailto" links in Firefox
So Windows likes to open Outlook when you hit an email address or link? That's so 2000 and late. I like to use Gmail, but this tip works with a few other web-based email services. In Firefox, go to Tools then Options and select the Applications tab. Scroll down to mailto and click on the associated action (on the right) to bring up a list. Change it to whatever you prefer. Then have a tea party.
p.s. = This can be achieved with other browsers too, but as far as I know, there aren't any.

MC McLaggyPants...
I'm a little behind on postings. I have found quite a few tips and tricks recently that I need to post. Setting up a PS3 Media Server, Windows 7 installation on an SSD, iPhone apps that rock...
I'll get to it soon.

Keep those multimedia keys alive when iTunes is in the background...
Found this tip on lifehacker.com, it's a small but annoying issue fixed. If your keyboard's multimedia buttons don't work unless iTunes is in the foreground, add this plugin to the iTunes plugin folder.
For XP Users, go to “C:\Program Files\iTunes\Plug-ins”.
Vista and Windows 7 users, go to “C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins”
Windows 7 for the ummm... WIN???
